Sunday Club

Sunday Club runs alongside the Sunday 10 am service at Holy Trinity Church Westbury-on-Trym.

Children are encouraged to join their families in the pews for the first hymn and welcome. They will then be invited to join the Sunday Club team at the back of the church.

Sunday Club takes place inside the church in a dedicated upstairs room and usually lasts about 40 minutes.

Children will retun to their parents just befoe the communion service and remain with them until the end of the service which is usually another 15 minutes.

Who’s it for?

Sunday Club is open to children aged 4–12, but younger children are welcome if their parents feel that they can benefit from the activities on offer. Children can join Sunday Club whenever they are in church, and parents are welcome too if their child needs help settling in.

A typical Sunday Club session would involve

  • welcome and register
  • game or activity linked to the theme of the session
  • Bible reading – this will be the same one that is used in the main service but will be from a children’s Bible using simplified language
  • explanation of new words and background context to the story
  • discussion about the story encouraging children to ask questions, challenge and think about how this might apply to their own life
  • craft activity or game or another activity linked to the story
  • in the summer when the weather is good we may run the session in the churchyard but would make parents aware of this at the start
  • all games and activites will be tailored to the age of the children present

The atmosphere is very relaxed and we encourage children to ask questions and get involved in whatever way suits them.

When’s it on?

Please check the calendar to see when Sunday Club is on. When it isn’t running, we provide activity sheets for children at the back of the church. There is also a carpeted space in front of St Paul’s Room at the back of the church, where the children can play with toys.

We look forward to welcoming you and your children!

Who runs it?

All volunteers at Sunday Club have been safely recruited. This means

  • they have a current DBS check
  • they have provided referees for their suitability for the the role
  • they have been through safeguarding training which is renewed every 3 years

We are more than happy to answer any questions that you might have, and offer a warm welcome if you would like to join the team.

Teaching children to pray

Teaching children to pray is an invaluable gift that they can carry with them throughout life. Giving children the time and space to pray creatively helps them connect with God.

Take a look at our Ways to Pray booklet – produced by the Prayer Ministry team – for some ideas to help you and your children get started.
