Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
Isaiah 6, v. 8
The Mission Committee identifies and co-ordinates a rotating programme of core charities, which the parish church supports from its annual Missions Day Collection for a period of three years each; enabled charities are supported less directly on a longer-term basis.
The work of the committee involves:
- Encouraging individuals who are already championing an enabled charity.
- Assisting the church in responding to national and international crises.
- Encouraging individuals in their own sense of calling to wider mission.
- Liaising with local church partners on matters relating to outreach and mission in the community.
In agreement with the PCC, the Mission Committee ensures that the three core charities reflect local, national and international needs, each charity being maintained for a period of three years.
The committee seeks to promote these charities through raising awareness of their work, fundraising (especially every autumn on Mission Giving Sunday) and prayer. The committee is chaired by the vicar and comprises those from the congregation with a particular interest in one of the church’s core or enabled charities, or related work.
